The commodity trading giant Glencore and Xstrata (mining) announced a few days ago a merger; becoming therefore the largest raw-materials trading in the world of agriculture and mining products.
Latin America identified as an "oasis of stability , growth and opportunity"
In the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, Latin America was identified as an "oasis of stability, growth, ad opportunity". in contrast to the uncertainty surrounding the European debt crisis and a slow recovery in the United States. Colombia, Peru and Brazil remain top destinations for foreign investment dollars.
Argentina's Land Law Seeks to limit foreign ownership.
We want to notify our investors that the Argentinean government recently passed a new law looking to limit the amount of land that foreigns can purchase. Under the new law passed on December 29 2011, no foreign individual or juridic person can purchase or own more than 1000Ha or 2471 acres in the so called "core region" (which is the equivalent to the US's corn belt). It is not clear as of today when or how is the law going to be enforced. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
New Opportunities: Minerals

Uruguay declared the country with the highest CPC
Uruguay was declared as the country with the highest Cattle per Capita (CPC) in the world: 12 million head of range-fed cattle for a population of 3.25 M people; equivalent to 3.7 head/person. Beef accounts for over 25% of Uruguay's exports, representing revenues above the USD 1.0 billion.

In recent weeks the uruguaian government approved a new rural tax under ICIR = Impuesto a a la Concentracion de Inmuebles Rurales; which applies for properties with surfaces above the 200 hectares (4,942 acres) according to the following scale:
-Properties from 2,000 to 5,000 hectares (4,942-12,355 acres)@ a rate of 67 index units equivalent to USD 8/Ha. (USD 3.24/acre)
-Properties from 5,001 to 10,000 hectares (12,357-24,710 acres)@ a rate of 100 indexed units equivalent to USD 10/Ha. (USD 4.05/acre)
-Properties above 10,000 hectares (24,710 acres) @ a rate of 135 indexed units equivalent to USD 16/Ha. (USD 6.47/acre)
